PASAY CITY, Feb. 27 Senator Cynthia A. Villar wants the Senate to recognize the three Filiipino space engineers for developing Maya-2 CubeSat, the country s 2nd nanosatellite successfully launched to the International Space Station (ISS) last Feb. 21.
In filing Senate Resolution 657, also introduced by Sen. Nancy Binay, Villar said the three engineers Izrael Zenar C. Bautista, Mark Angelo C. Puno and Marloun P. Sejera, have brought pride to the country for the satellite launched aboard the cargo spacecraft Cygnus NG 15.
Villar said the remarkable achievements of the three Filipino engineers are not just in line with the policies and goals of the Philippine Space Act. It was also viewed as a welcome good news bringing genuine inspiration to the Filipinos amid the backdrop of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic in the country. ....

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 21) The Philippines launched its second cube satellite early Sunday morning (Philippine time) at the International Space Station aboard the S.S. Katherine Johnson Cynus spacecraft.
The Maya-2, joined by two other cube satellites from Japan and Paraguay in its space launch, was designed by Filipino scholars who are taking their doctoral degree in space engineering at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. They were sent through the Department of Science and Technology s Space Technology and Applications Mastery, Innovation and Advancement (STAMINA4Space) Program.
The DOST said Maya-2 is a technology demonstration and educational platform geared to collect data remotely by Store-and-Forward Mechanism. ....

The Maya-2 CubeSat, developed by three Filipino engineers, was officially launched at the International Space Station on Sunday afternoon, along with satellites from Japan and Paraguay, as part of the Joint Global Multi-Nation Birds Satellite Project (BIRDS-4).
Behind the successful launch is a team composed of three Filipinos, all of them pursuing doctorates in Space Systems Engineering and Space Engineering at the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) in Kitakyushu, Japan.

Bautista is responsible for the monitoring of the team s activities from planning, design, execution, implementation, and operation of the satellite. His responsibilities also include the testing of the feasibility of the Perovskite solar cell mission in space. ....
