ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi Ring Road controversy erupted because the government had refused to get a $400 million concessional loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and preferred to construct it through half-baked public-private partnership, The News has learnt.
In a story published in this newspaper, this correspondent had written that “the AIIB committed $1 billion concessional loan for three important projects including $400 million for Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project connecting the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and two projects for Lahore including Waste Water Treatment and Urban/Environmental Development Project.
It had been written that “the talks with the AIIB were held in 2018 but now more than two years have passed and the AIIB may withdraw this loan facility. SUKKUR: Growers of Sindh and Pakistan Peoples Party workers will hold a sit-in under the leadership of party chairman Bilawal-Bhutto Zardari along the Sindh-Punjab border to seal it, if “theft” of Sindh’s water is not stopped.
This was announced by Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal while addressing a press conference along with Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah during a visit to Sukkur Barrage on Saturday.
Strongly criticising Punjab for opening link canals and thus causing an acute shortage of irrigation water in Sindh, Mr Siyal said the ruling party would also move a resolution over this constant “theft” of Sindh’s water. ....

The National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC) has formed a partnership with the City of Cape Town which will see an upgrade and maintenance of the city’s rental stock, estimated at 57,000 units.
The partnership was announced this week by human settlements, water and sanitation minister Lindiwe Sisulu.
She said the partnership would go a long way in providing decent, secure and affordable accommodation to the people who live and work in Cape Town. ....
