Alleged bribery scam: Contractors shut FCTA perm Sec's office – THE AUTHORITY NEWS

Aggrieved contractors in the wee hours of Monday grounded activities at the Federal Capital Territory Administration over alleged bribery scandal by the permanent secretary, Olusade Adesola.
This is coming barely one week after the Joint Unions Action Committee, JUAC, within the administration declared the permanent secretary office’s illegal.
The contractors claimed that they had executed various COVID-19 contracts for the administration between March 2020 and April 2021, without being paid. 
About 300 visible angry contractors, as early as 10am stormed Area 11 where the offices of FCT Ministers and that of the Permanent Secretary are located, and blocked the major entrances. ....

Events have remained tumultuous in Nigeria since President Muhammadu Buhari made his latest trip to the United Kingdom late last month.
While the president is resting in London, back home, Nigeria is grappling with a fever of industrial actions by public servants. Those out on strike include judiciary workers, resident doctors, parliamentary staff, Federal Capital Territory workers and staff of polytechnics and monotechnics nationwide. The doctors, on Saturday, suspended their strike for four weeks after some concessions from the federal government.
There have also been renewed attacks on security facilities across the country, particularly in the Southeast, as the face-offs continue between security operatives and criminals. ....

Striking workers ground govt businesses in FCT


 
The staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) have grounded government business as they demand the removal of the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola.
The usually busy premises of the national capital’s bureaucracy was deserted with scanty car parks and empty offices.
The industrial action, which commenced on Monday as a warning to press home demands of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) has left customers of the key agencies in the FCTA stranded.
Our checks revealed that customers Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Department of Development Control, Abuja Geographic Information Systems  (AGIS) were left frustrated as they could not get services for waste management and evacuation, land processing and building approvals from the aforementioned strategic agencies. ....

Union Shuts Down FCTA, Insists Perm Sec Office Illegal

Workers under the aegis of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) yesterday embarked on a three-day warning strike over their call for the abrogation of the office of the Permanent Secretary and the implementation of the FCT Civil Service Commission Act.
The warning strike grounded activities at the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Department of Development Control and Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS).
It was also learnt that school teachers and health workers were contemplating joining the ongoing strike.
The workers accused the FCT Administration of double standards, saying that government that claimed to be transparent cannot continue to retain a Permanent Secretary deployed from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. ....
