JTF-NCR rescues, evacuates over 60 families in Marikina and QC

Over 60 families in the Quezon and Marikina cities have been rescued and evacuated by the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTR-NCR) as of Saturday morning from floods spawned by continues monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Fabian, which is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
In a report, JTF-NCR said its personnel have rescued and evacuated 23 families in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City, and were evacuated to Dr. Josefa Jara Martinez High School .
Likewise, the JTF-NCR said that 40 families, including 210 adults and 160 children in six barangays in Marikina City have been rescued and assisted as they were brought to their designated evacuation sites in the city. ....

Army nurse reflects on her 42-year career

Fox Army Health Center Deputy to the Commander for Quality and Safety Dr. Margaret Bates credits her 42-year nursing career with those who contributed to her professional development, with one of them being her older cousin, who inspired her to become a nurse.
âEverything she said and did flowed from her warm and caring personality,â Bates said. âI knew I wanted to be just like her and do the same type of work.â
Bates started her career in the mid-1970s working at M.D. Anderson Cancer Institute & Hospital as a graduate nurse. While waiting on her board results, Bates had the opportunity to give chemotherapy treatment to a patient. She recalled the paralyzing fear of making an error in that moment but credits the staff and patients of M.D. Anderson for laying the foundation of her nursing career. ....

Military chief wants to replicate community pantry

ARMED Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Cirilito Sobejana said he has ordered the Civil Military Operations to organize humanitarian activities similar to the community pantry to help indigent families during this coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
He also planned to convince AFP personnel to donate their subsistence allowance for one day to the endeavor.
In a virtual press conference on Thursday, April 22, 2021, Sobejana said the Joint Task Force National Capital Region (NCR) will identify the areas where help is most needed.
“In fact, we are looking for funds for this purpose. I am even contemplating of convincing the members of the AFP to donate one day of our subsistence allowance. With that we will be able to accumulate substantial amount to support the program, ‘yung community pantry or other similar humanitarian undertakings,” he said. ....
