NC MedAssist, a nonprofit free pharmacy, in partnership with the Community Free Clinic and Cooperative Christian Ministry, will be hosting the Hope for Health Community Day on Saturday, May 22, 9am-2pm. The event is drive thru and will connect people to FREE healthcare, medications and the local food bank. There will be free medication giveaways, food bags, and other items. Organizations around the Charlotte region are not letting the coronavirus get in the way of marking this year s Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday.
Virtual and outdoor events have been planned throughout the weekend to honor the civil rights leader and build on his dream of racial equality. They include film screenings, musical and dramatic performances, a pay what you can soup kitchen, and virtual remarks from Dr. King s oldest son, Martin Luther King III.
This year s events will also take on special significance after last summer s nationwide protests against police brutality and the rise of white nationalism, said Afeni Grace with Charlotte s Harvey B. Gantt Center. ....

In September 2020, âMoney Magazineâ ranked Concord as one of the top places to live in our United States! Nationally, Concord was rated Number 24! âThe Independent Tribuneâ has already done one story on this award, but part of it bears repeating.

Fred Coleman Abernethy, 86, of Banner Elk, NC passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at his home.
He was born on March 4, 1934, in Catawba County, North Carolina, a son of the late Fred Coleman Abernethy, Sr. and the late Alta Rix Setzer Abernethy.
Fred was a NC State University graduate and began his career as an Registered Architect in 1965.
