OMAHA, Neb. (UND Athletics) – If Friday’s opener with Omaha is any indication of what’s to come, the final month of the regular season will be action-packed. North Dakota and the Mavs began a stretch where the teams will meet six times over UND’s final eight games and the Fighting Hawks’ 6-2 win was hard-fought, scrappy and North Dakota actually trailed in the second period before five unanswered goals lengthened UND’s lead in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Just 1:25 in the game, the Fighting Hawks gave themselves the early advantage. Shane Pinto came out of a tie-up in the corner and backhanded a pass to freshman Cooper Moore at the point. Moore fired a shot that traveled through tons of traffic but found its way past Isaiah Saville. It was his second goal in as many weeks and helped give the visitors an edge off the jump. ....

North Dakota is 24-13-1 all-time against the Mavericks, including wins in eight of the last 11. Last season, the teams split the season series, 2-2. Omaha’s 6-3 win at the REA on Jan. 10 was UND’s lone blemish to its home record last season (18-1-0).

GRAND FOEKS, N.D. Despite a career-high 36 saves by Dominic Basse, Colorado College fell to third-ranked North Dakota, 4-1, Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Jordan Kawaguchi and Shane Pinto each collected a goal and an assist for the Fighting Hawks (11-3-1), who defeated CC for the third time in the last 13 days.
Basse took everything North Dakota had for him in the first period, including seven shots during an early power play. The freshman from Alexandria, Va., made 18 saves in the first 20 minutes, the most by a Tiger goalie in one period this season. ....

OMAHA, Neb.-(UND Athletics) – Fourth-ranked North Dakota will leave the 10-game NCHC pod with the most conference points, winning its finale, 6-2, Sunday evening at Baxter Arena.
UND’s (7-2-1) 20 league points are two more than Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State, who both claim 18 points with one fewer game. Omaha sits close behind with 16 points and the finale to play tomorrow vs. Colorado College.

There are no secrets when UMD is playing North Dakota. The game will likely be fast, physical, intense, and emotional. Zero pretense.
The emotions really didn’t spill like we’ve so often seen in Thursday’s 2-2 tie at the NCHC Pod, which was followed up by a three-round shootout that UMD won 1-0 for an extra point in the league standings.
