Update at 4:30 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore relays that crews are getting a handle on the dubbed “Dry Fire,” burning in the Cooperstown area northwest of La Grange in Tuolumne County. She reports that the forward spread has been stopped at 3-acres. Crews will remain on scene working to gain full containment and mop up for the next couple of hours.
The fire broke out just before 4 p,m, in some grass on Cooperstown Road near the Sierra Railroad crossing and east of Willims Road and was a slow-moving fire with no structures are threatened, The cause is under investigation. ....

County scrambling to find cash to replace old bridges
The Seventh Street Bridge between Modesto and Ceres is one of the oldest in Stanislaus County and is in need of replacement. The county doesn’t have enough money so is attempting to secure funding sources that include Uncle Sam.

Stanislaus County has some of the oldest bridges in the state, supervisors were told recently, and finding the money to replace them will prove challenging over the next several decades.
County Director of Public Works Dave Leamon gave the Board of Supervisors an update on bridge replacements at its meeting of Jan. 12, highlighting completed replacement, current projects and future projects. ....
