After surviving centuries of New England weather, and no shortage of children trying to climb it, the sugar maple that has stood in front of Buxton’s home sustained catastrophic damage in a recent windstorm.

“You could hear it creaking open,” she said.
A crack in the trunk left it wounded beyond repair. Buxton and her arborist, Micum Davis of Cornerstone Tree Service, agreed it was time to take it down.

KENSINGTON, N.H. (AP) In a story April 5, 2021, about a sugar maple tree being removed, The Associated Press misspelled the name of the manager of American Forests’ National Champion Trees program. It should be Rose Tileston, not Rose Tileson. This story also clarifies that Braxton should be Buxton on second reference. Janet Buxton s name was spelled correctly on first reference.

SEPTA's Somerset Station in Kensington opens April 5 after deep cleaning and repairs

The station closed last month for emergency maintenance and repair work to clean urine, human waste, discarded needles and other debris, SEPTA said. Somerset s elevators had stopped working due to damage caused by urine, discarded needles and other trash and will still take months to repair, the transportation authority said.
Work has been completed to reinforce stairways and passenger crossovers. Crews also have installed enhanced lighting and new signage and painted walls and other areas.
Closing a station is an action of last resort, however, it was necessary to ensure we could address these critical needs and provide a safe environment for customers and employees,” Richards said. ....

Kensington fitness centre itself is largely untouched since it was first opened in 1986.

Sport Northland recently announced a significant redevelopment of one its key facilities, Kensington Fitness. Situated at Kensington Park in Whangarei, the centre is part of the McKay Stadium facility, first constructed in the late 1970s and under the ownership and management of Sport Northland since 1991.
While the wider McKay Stadium complex has undergone two major redevelopments back in 1998 and 2002, the fitness centre itself is largely untouched since it was opened in 1986. ....

SEPTA to Add Police Officers When Kensington's Somerset Station Reopens, Following Closure Due to Unsanitary Conditions – NBC10 Philadelphia

“Emergency maintenance and repair work was needed throughout the station to mitigate damage from urination, human waste, discarded needles and other debris,” SEPTA said in a press release.
The transit agency said previously that so many needles and so much urine had gotten into the elevators at the station on the Market-Frankford line that they broke. Work to fix those elevators will likely continue past April 5, SEPTA said.
Over the last two weeks, SEPTA said it has reinforced structures like stairs and passenger crossovers, as well as installed “enhanced” lighting and new signage.
When the station reopens, SEPTA Transit Police officers will be assigned at the location, which will now also have a “street-level police booth.” In addition, 60 security guards will be added to the Market-Frankford line by next week. ....
