With Maine’s blueberry season just around the corner, Governor Janet Mills declared August 7-8, 2021 as Maine’s first annual Wild Blueberry Weekend.
The Governor made the announcement during a celebration at the Blaine House today, where she was joined by a diverse group of wild blueberry growers and processors, Patricia Kontur of the Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine, and Amanda Beal, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. The event featured a tasting of a number of wild blueberry-themed products, as well as fresh wild blueberries that are being harvested now. Last year, Maine farmers harvested nearly 60 million pounds of wild blueberries. ....

KENNEBEC COUNTY – Clare Darcy entered this world at home on April 16, 1951 in Seattle, Wash.; delivered by her mother Victoria Blanche (Letson) Thuline and her father, Dr. Horace C. Thuline, then a medical student. Clare was the fifth of nine children.
The Thulines moved to Lakewood, Wash. when Clare was five, where the children were raised in the Christian Faith. Clare was a talented solo pianist and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was educated in the Lakes School District. Clare’s artistic talents were evident at an early age and cherished for their realism and wit. She designed and constructed elaborate sets and decorations for school concerts. After graduating high school in 1969, she attended Seattle Pacific College. ....

New vaccination numbers in Maine hold steady amid rise in COVID cases
Maine already has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, but some providers say they are continuing to see interest from small numbers of people looking for convenience.

The number of COVID-19 vaccinations being administered in Maine has remained steady in recent weeks and some providers say they are continuing to see interest even if numbers aren’t as high as they were at the peak of vaccination efforts this spring.
An average of 1,207 shots per day have been given over the last three weeks, according to data from the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The 1,672 doses given Wednesday were the most since July 1, though vaccination efforts overall remain far below the April peak when as many as 25,000 shots were given in a single day. ....
