Hernando family rescued from home after flash flooding

Parts of DeSoto County experienced intense flooding Friday afternoon.

HERNANDO, Miss Flash flooding engulfed James Stigall s Hernando yard Friday with four-wheelers nearly submerged and knee-deep water pouring into cars.
His home only had a few inches of water inside, but several inches of water covered his driveway and grass.
When I actually came outside and was getting ready to walk off the porch that’s when the reality of it set in of what was going on, Stigall said.
The rushing, high water from the creek next to his house made it nearly impossible for his yard to drain in time. Stigall said in the years he has lived there, his yard has never flooded to this extent. ....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. Memphis highways have had at least 69 shootings in just the first half of the year or an average of three a week. In all of 2020, the total was 83 shootings.
It s so bad some drivers, like Latonya Williams, said they try to avoid taking any Memphis interstate or state highway just hoping to stay out of the crosshairs of gunfire.
We’re just halfway into the year, how many more left for the rest of the year? Williams said.
After a weeks-long sting called Operation Grizzly Bear in 2019, more than 30 Tennessee Highway troopers were brought to Memphis assist the Shelby County Sheriff s Office and Memphis Police in patrolling the highways. The number of shootings that year capped at 46. ....

While the Memphis Police Department has said it has upped its patrols in areas known for speeding, the family of Wallace Morris and Travis Parham Jr. said it s not enough.
Morris and Parham Jr. were killed Friday night by an off-duty MPD officer allegedly drag racing on Walnut Grove. Both were hit head-on when the officer crashed into them splitting their car in half. Travis Parham Sr., Parham Jr. s father and Morris s cousin, said the drag racing and speeding happening across the city needs to stop. ....
