Henderson Co. woman faces drug trafficking, child endangerment charges


HENDERSON, Ky. A Henderson County woman was arrested after allegedly selling drugs while her three children were in the vehicle with her.
The Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force alleges that Johna M. Stone, 29, 6000 section of Kentucky 1299, took her children to the parking lot of Cairo Elementary School where she is accused of selling roughly 11 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant.
The incident is said to have occurred on the afternoon of July 6, according to authorities.
Following the alleged transaction, the task force members said Stone was stopped near the intersection of U.S. 41-Alternate and Kentucky 425. Three children, ages 4, 5 and 10, were allegedly in the vehicle with Stone. ....

Sandy Lee Watkins Songwriters Festival returns to Henderson for 2021


Last year s festival like just about everything else was suspended due to the pandemic.
The event is set for July 28-31 and features songwriters such as Don Sampson, who has written songs for Brad Paisley and Alan Jackson; Johnny Bulford, who has written songs for Lee Brice and Chris Young; Heidi Raye, who shared the stage with Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean; Tony Arata, who has written songs for Garth Brooks, Patty Loveless and Trisha Yearwood; Chris Gelbuda, who has written songs by Darius Rucker and Billy Currington; and Billy Crain, who has written songs for Martina McBride, and shared the stage with ZZ Top and The Rolling Stones.  ....

Henderson County residents looked out their windows on the first day of spring 1996 to see a scene that looked more like the winter solstice.
It wasn’t this area’s latest snowstorm of the year. Since the National Weather Service began keeping records in Evansville in 1948 that would be the one that hit April 6, 1971. And it certainly wasn’t the hardest hitting. There are about 15 that recorded deeper accumulations of snow.
The most snow Henderson County has gotten in one day was 14 inches on Dec. 8, 1917. But the most over two days was 16 inches on Jan. 17 and 18, 1978, which was a full-scale blizzard, according to the National Weather Service. ....
