Disaster assistance extended to more communities impacted by ex-tropical Cyclone Imogen 19 February

Disaster assistance has been extended to the local government areas of Cairns, Townsville and Pormpuraaw following ongoing impacts from ex-Tropical Cyclone Imogen.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Minister for Emergency Management David Littleproud said North Queenslanders would continue to be supported in local recovery following the flooding brought on by ex-Tropical Cyclone Imogen.
“As the impacts of these floods expand, all levels of government are working together to ensure every available support and assistance is provided to affected communities,” Minister Littleproud said. ....

Record growth in Queensland exploration industry expected to continue: QEC


An exploration forum in Brisbane today heard Queensland’s resources industry has grown exponentially over the past decade, and by an incredible 77 per cent in the past three years.
Queensland Exploration Council (QEC) Chair Kim Wainwright said exploration expenditure in Queensland has been robust over most of the past 10 years, apart from a drop in 2015-17, but had been on a steep upwards trajectory since 2018.
“For the past decade, the QEC’s annual Scorecard publication has shown a highly positive explorer sentiment towards resource prospectivity, which is very good news for our industry and a barometer for how well the resources sector is travelling,” she said. ....

International freight flights from Toowoomba to Singapore extended

High end produce will continue to reach overseas markets with freight flights extended until April 14 under the Federal Government s International Freight Assistance Mechanism.
An extra twelve flights will take cargo from Toowoomba to Singapore via Cairns.
The $670 million program was introduced following the massive drop in the number of international passenger flights due to COVID-19, as Federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud explains to Vicki Thompson.

Suspicious white powder washes up on Hinchinbrook Island
Detectives are seeking public assistance after ten packages of white powder were located washed up on the beach at Ramsay Bay, Hinchinbrook Island.
Members of the public contacted police on Sunday after discovering the one-kilogram packages containing a powder substance on the beach at the high tide mark.
Investigators from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Far Northern and Cairns District are searching the area as part of investigations.
Acting Officer in Charge of MOCS Far Northern Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Graham Camp said police are now seeking further information from the public over concerns the contents of these packages could become a health risk if handled by the finder. ....
