Australia had its wettest summer overall for four years, though much of south-east Queensland remains dry.
The summer of 2020-21 brought above average rainfall nationwide and was the wettest since 2016-17. South eastern Queensland was the exception, with the Burnett district and areas from Capricornia to Wide Bay the only regions to experience below average summer rainfall.
Last summer also brought the third-wettest December since national records began in 1900.
The national area-averaged mean temperature was 0.06 °C above the 1961-1990 average, making it Australia s coolest summer overall since 2011-12. ....

Disaster assistance extended to more communities impacted by ex-tropical Cyclone Imogen 19 February

Disaster assistance has been extended to the local government areas of Cairns, Townsville and Pormpuraaw following ongoing impacts from ex-Tropical Cyclone Imogen.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Minister for Emergency Management David Littleproud said North Queenslanders would continue to be supported in local recovery following the flooding brought on by ex-Tropical Cyclone Imogen.
“As the impacts of these floods expand, all levels of government are working together to ensure every available support and assistance is provided to affected communities,” Minister Littleproud said. ....

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) says it is now unlikely weakening Tropical Cyclone Kimi will significantly impact the north Queensland coast.
The cyclone intensified to a category two on Monday, but as it continued to move south off the coast between Hinchinbrook Island and Townsville, the storm was downgraded to a category one system late in the evening.
At about 11:00pm on Monday, the BOM s advice showed the cyclone had displayed a weakening trend over the past few hours, and it is expected to weaken further during Tuesday . ....
