Pilot program could turn parking spots into outdoor seating at downtown coffee shop

A downtown coffee shop could be the site of a pilot program aimed at temporarily turning parking spots into outdoor seating.
The project, which would be in front of The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. if approved at tomorrow s Sioux Falls City Council meeting, would create an extended furniture zone that would allow the store to place tables and chairs in two parking spots in front of the store until Oct. 31.
The store s owners had pitched a similar project in January that didn t pass, so when they reached out to Councilor Christine Erickson, she was excited to try to make it happen, she said. ....

MARQUETTE Eleven small batch food businesses in the Upper Peninsula were awarded critical support services at the end of March.
In an effort to assist small batch food businesses across the U.P. to launch or scale up operations, Pure Michigan Business Connect and Community Development teams at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, along with local business support services, has launched a competitive pitch competition.
Twenty-three businesses applied to participate and 11 were awarded Superior Coffee Roasting Co. Inc., Mackinac Bluffs Maple Farms Inc., Superior Culture, Peace Pie Company, Donckers, Skinny Petes, Rozie’s Foods, Rozina Dee Granola and Bakery, Stag Farms, Teach to Taste and Red’z. ....
