Oregon students allowed to take fewer standardized tests this spring

The U.S. Department of Education approved Oregon Department of Education s amended request to have students do some, but not all, of the required standardized tests this spring.
Many Oregon students are just returning for in-person instruction, and the vast majority of students are still in some form of hybrid learning, according to ODE data.
Local district leaders say they re grateful for fewer tests and are making plans to move ahead, but will have more challenges than years past.
The timing for the tests will vary slightly by district and the type of test students have to take will depend on their grade. Some grades won t have to test at all.  ....

Some Mid-Valley parents, students demand Oregon schools fully reopen

About 100 parents and students gathered across from the state Capitol Saturday to urge Oregon schools to open five days a week.
They met a day after Gov. Kate Brown ordered K-12 schools to provide some level of in-person instruction by mid-April. Students in grades K-5 will have to have the option by the week of March 29, and students in grades 6-12 by the week of April 19.
I am here today because education is a right, parent Glenda Scherer, who started a group called Unheard Parents, said.  I have heard so many stories from families who are really struggling and their kids are basically shriveling because kids are social. And they need to have connections with other people.   ....
