Attorney Mark Greenwald, who represents the Salinas family, said that cases of this nature are a traumatic experience for families.
”All clients I’ve had are horrified,” he said. “They just don’t know what to do because they’re in a different universe.”
“In every funeral home case that I’ve handled, the trauma that’s inflicted on the families is always severe, horrific and lingering,” said Alex Katzman, who represents the Cervantes family. ....

Two families are suing a San Antonio funeral home for switching the bodies of two women who died ten days apart in November. The relatives of 85-year-old Catalina Cervantes and 88-year-old Mary Lou Salinas are seeking more than a million-dollars in damages in two separate lawsuits. A lawyer for Mission Park Funeral Chapel claims one of the families misidentified the remains of their mother and didn t notice even during an open-casket funeral. The second family reportedly pointed out the problem.

SAN ANTONIO Two San Antonio families are suing a local funeral home after they allege their loved ones’ bodies were mistakenly swapped, leading to the burial of the wrong person.
The lawsuits, filed Monday by the families of Mary Lou Salinas and Catalina Cervantes, allege that the two women died within days of each other in November 2020 and were both taken to Mission Park South for services to be held at a later date. Due to the global pandemic, the funeral home arranged rosaries and interment for the two women several days after their death. ....
