Lainey Goolsby ՚21 to teach middle school in Illinois Shares: 14 Shares: Questions and answers have been edited for clarity and length. What are your short and long-term plans after Cornell? I have already accepted a teaching position for next year at Northlawn Junior High in Streator, IL. I plan to go back to school in a few years for my master’s in educational administration. How has Cornell prepared you for your future? I think Cornell’s education program does the most to prepare you for life inside your own classroom. We have practicums and student teaching that help us tap into our teaching potential and immerse us in the classroom. ....
April 28th, 2021 By William Kozy Everybody loves a good existential mystery puzzle to try and solve, or at least take pleasure in watching being solved by the characters in the work of fiction. It’s fun to let one’s imagination run loose, but it does put the pressure on the creator of the fiction to come up with a resolution that is sufficiently mind-blowing, and just as importantly, doesn’t violate the rules that were set up in such a way that the audience feels cheated. “The Arrival” is an episode that while providing a fairly logical explanation of the puzzle, doesn’t shock us all that much. It slipped a tad this season, with Anna Faris (as Christy) leaving; still, it has sharp scripts and one of TV’s great characters. That’s Bonnie, perfectly played by Alison Janney, who has two Emmys in the role … plus five in other roles and an Oscar. Tonight (after a fairly funny “United States of Al” at 8:30), Bonnie is jealous of Tammy’s success. “The Moodys,” 9:30 p.m., Fox. Sean (Denis Leary) barely tolerates life’s cruel blows, but this goes too far: He’s being demoted on the hockey team his brother coaches. He rages, in a funny episode that includes the aftermath of a kiss (Dan and his mom’s life coach and a near-kiss Bridget and her cousin). ....
