Lava Fire reminds residents of 2014 Boles Fire - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

WEED, Cali. – NBC5 News is getting new information about the Lava Fire that’s burning near Weed and Lake Shastina, Cali. On Thursday it was 25% contained and roughly 19,780 acres.
Firefighters are aggressively attacking the Lava Fire. It’s been burning since Friday morning. Firefighters are battling not only the flames but hot weather and rough terrain. The land where it’s burning is so rough, the nearly 1,300 firefighters on the scene are limited on how they can fight the flames. The weather was in their favor Wednesday night, which allowed them to increase containment from 19% to 25%.
“We encountered a lot of lava rock in the ground, which prohibits bulldozers from establishing their line. We had to get in there with hand crews to manipulate that type of terrain,” said John DeYoe, Cal Incident Management Team 14. ....

MEDFORD, Ore. – While Oregon is reopening, a new variant is causing concern in Oregon. It’s called the Delta variant and it’s in Oregon.
Jackson County Public Health said there are reportedly 13 cases within the state. The Delta variant is the most concerning variant to experts. It’s the one that has been wreaking havoc in places like India killing thousands. But people who are vaccinated against COVID-19 may not need to worry. Medford resident pays respects to recently identified 2-year old boy - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – Fifty-eight years after a baby boy was found in the Keene Creek Reservoir he’s been identified with GEDMatch DNA. Now be reunited with his family.
There aren’t many stories retired Jackson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Colin Fagan would do in 110-degree heat. But out of all his cases, this one is close to his heart.
“It stayed with me throughout my career. So even following [my] retirement I was very excited to hear that we were able to get him properly identified. Which was our goal from the beginning,” said Fagan.
Back in 1963, a fisherman found a knitted quilt sealed with wire, inside it was a 2-year old boy’s body. The technology wasn’t there to identify the ‘unknown boy’. But in 2009, Fagan, along with other Jackson County Sheriff’s detectives found the case. They wanted to give the boy his name back. ....
