Cumbrian artists including Catherine MacDiarmid donate work for SAFA


MORE than 100 artists the majority from Cumbria have donated pieces of work for an auction raising money for a self-harm awareness charity.
SAFA Cumbria (Self Harm Awareness for All) provides professional counselling to hundreds of people in the county to overcome self-harming behaviours.
SAFA relies on donations and is currently running an art auction called ‘Artworks for SAFA’.
The auction includes a wide range of affordable art, as well as some investment pieces with reserves much lower than the typical prices.
Donated art includes ‘Moonrise and Earth Shadow over Cleabarrow’ by the acclaimed John Moores prize winning artist Martin Greenland, which was specially commissioned for the auction and an oil on canvas by prize winning portrait artist, Catherine MacDiarmid ‘Play’. ....

Auction by artist Sharon Tate for Self-Harm Awareness For All set to launch


An art auction raising money for Self-Harm Awareness for All (SAFA) hopes to have something for everyone.
The auction will have an affordable Buy Now price range from £6 to £35, while auction reserves range from £30 to £900.
Local artist Sharon Tate is the inspiration and project leader behind the auction and has put together a dedicated team of volunteers to raise much-needed money for SAFA.
The charity relies on donations to continue its work as the number of referrals continues to increase while fundraising has become harder due to the pandemic.
The auction launches at 9am tomorrow for bidding and ends at 8pm on June 5. ....

Green Door exhibition 'Green Shoots' returns to favourite venue at Upfront House near Penrith


MEMBERS of Green Door, the region’s leading artists’ collective, are returning to a favourite venue.
The exhibition at Upfront House near Penrith was created by 35 of Green Door’s 115 members. ‘Green Shoots’ includes almost 100 pieces of work across a variety of mediums including paintings, prints, photography, textiles, wood and stoneware.
“During lockdown It was difficult for me to find the time to paint as I had my children at home and elderly parents to help out,” said artist Catherine MacDiarmid.
“Then Sky Arts Portrait Artist started a spin off show called Portrait Artist of the Week where celebrity sitters sat live for a past winner and invited everyone to join in. It was a great excuse to demand two-three hours each Sunday to paint. The joy of painting a portrait within a set time scale is that it really loosens you up and the marks you make have to be more decisive and meaningful.
