Shillong, June 1 : Lt Gen Pradeep Chandran Nair on Tuesday took over as the 21st Director General of the Assam Rifles, succeeding Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, officials said.
An official statement said that Lt Gen Nair, who was commissioned into the Sikh Regiment in 1985, has rich experience of Assam Rifles and the northeast, having earlier been an Inspector General, battalion and company commander in the paramilitary force.
An alumnus of Sainik School, Satara, the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College, the College of Defence Management and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, he has also served as Brigadier General Staff in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area, and in the Defence Intelligence Agency. ....

Kolkata, April 30 : A spike in illegal narcortics from the Golden Triangle to South and Southeast Asian countries as a result of pandemic-related supply gluts and a likely increase in production is worrying Myanmars neighbours, including India.
The Golden Triangle , located in northeastern Myanmar bordering Laos, Thailand and China, is one of the two biggest global sources of narcotic drugs.
Anti-narcotics authorities in neighboring Thailand have seized more than 80 million methamphetamine pills, or yaba, in the past six months, a record haul that they blame partly on a supply glut caused by the Covid-19. ....

IDFC FIRST Bank announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Assam Rifles to offer Honour FIRST, a premium banking solution, to serving personnel and veterans of Assam Rifles.
