NMSU Carlsbad, southeastern New Mexico STEM programs to benefit from Chevron support


New Mexico State University academic programs, scholarships and STEM programs in southeastern New Mexico have received support from a generous donation from Chevron’s Mid Continent Business Unit.
A gift from Chevron is providing support for academic programs and scholarships at New Mexico State University Carlsbad and STEM programs in southeastern New Mexico. At NMSU Carlsbad, the $50,000 gift will provide critical funding for the newly developed remotely delivered associate degree in chemical engineering, and will continue support of the Chevron Workforce Development Scholarship. The gift also will help support NM Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology Robotics programs at middle schools and high schools in Eddy and Lea Counties. ....

Plans continue to make NMSU Carlsbad independent college


There’s been a lot of recent progress on the effort to create an independent college in Carlsbad, and we believed it was time for an update.
A preliminary plan has been submitted to the New Mexico Department of Higher Education by Craig Stephens, John Heaton and members of our higher education task force. This plan included the letters of support they received for going independent as well as a list of all the names on the petition. Thank you for all of the support. The HED is reviewing what has been sent to them so far. 
Even though other colleges have gone independent in New Mexico, it isn’t a process that happens every year, so the task force is working closely with the HED to understand specifics, such as how an election for a board of regents would need to take place in the future.  ....
