All set to start commercial operations

JAMMU, Apr 29: The second phase of Jammu Ropeway Project from Maha Maya Temple to Peer Kho is all set to start commercial operations as all the major works have been completed.
It was informed during the visit of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer to the site for inspection of the final works.
Pertinently, the 1.66-km-long cable car project has two phases, first from Bahu Fort to Mahamaya Park and the second from Mahamaya to Peer Kho over the Tawi river. Phase 1st has already been thrown open to the public on July 27, 2020. A total of 2100 passengers till date have taken ride on the phase 1st of the ropeway. ....

Tourism Directorate hosts Weekend Musical Evening at Bahu Gandola Station

Jammu: To promote Tourism in general and recently opened 1st Phase of Cable Car in particular, Department of Tourism today organized weekend Musical evening here at Bahu, Ropeway Station.
The series of musical evenings will continue in coming weeks till March 31st, 2021. During the function, a large number of public gathered at Bahu Ropeway Station and were mesmerized with the folklore performances of Jammu Division.
The cultural programs were performed by the artists of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Tourists from various states enjoyed the Cable Car ride and got acquainted with the local Dogra, culture. ....

Earthquake strengthening planned for Wellington Cable Car tunnel in preparation for the big one

Strengthening work is planned for the Wellington Cable Car’s Everton Terrace tunnel.
The proposed work, currently in the resource consent application stage, would consist of strengthening three elements of the tunnel; the tunnel portal itself, the wall outside, and the hill slope over top, all of which sit within the Kelburn Cable Car historic area.
Cable Car Company chief executive Cesar Piotto said there was no set date for the work to take place, but the resource application asked for a 10-year window, with the option of an extension.
The Everton tunnel was constructed between 1898 and 1901, and is approximately 103m long, 5m high, with a maximum width of 6.1m. ....

This device was installed with an aim to ease the uphill journey of skiers and encourage sports lovers so as to increase the footfall of tourists for various benefits, especially for the area concerned.
