Amazon lines up second Mesa distribution center


It took fast-growing Amazon quite a while to open its first Mesa distribution center, with the online giant finally opening a facility near Falcon Field near the end of 2019.
It must be going well, as Amazon is already lining up its second Mesa operation — this one on the north end of Eastmark, close to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Two and a half months ago, plans
for “Project Javelina” were submitted to the city.
Though the company likely to operate there is mostly veiled in the submission, “Amazon Hub” appears on the plan twice, below a sketch of “package pickup and return” and “customer service” entrances. ....

Earthquake strengthening planned for Wellington Cable Car tunnel in preparation for the big one


Strengthening work is planned for the Wellington Cable Car’s Everton Terrace tunnel.
The proposed work, currently in the resource consent application stage, would consist of strengthening three elements of the tunnel; the tunnel portal itself, the wall outside, and the hill slope over top, all of which sit within the Kelburn Cable Car historic area.
Cable Car Company chief executive Cesar Piotto​ said there was no set date for the work to take place, but the resource application asked for a 10-year window, with the option of an extension.
The Everton tunnel was constructed between 1898 and 1901, and is approximately 103m long, 5m high, with a maximum width of 6.1m. ....
