Nvidia removes mining rate limits on the GeForce RTX 3060 with a new beta driver

Nvidia removes mining rate limits on the GeForce RTX 3060 with a new beta driver [Update]

Prior to the launch of the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards, Nvidia announced that the GPU would come with an algorithm designed to cut the mining hash rate of the card in half, specifically for the Ethereum cryptocurrency. The goal, according to the company, was to prevent cryptocurrency miners from hogging all the stock of the card and blocking gamers from getting the cards. At the same time, the company launched dedicated mining GPUs without display outputs to cater to the mining market.

HP Omen 15 with Zen 3 Ryzen 5 CPU and GeForce RTX 3060 graphics is back on sale for an even cheaper $1120 USD

Ticker
After being unavailable shortly after its first sale two weeks ago, the HP Omen 15 is down in price yet again to be one of the better GeForce RTX 3060 laptops you can find for the price.
The deal is notable because the configuration in question is the latest 2021 model from HP and not just some older design. It comes with the latest Zen 3 CPU and Nvidia Ampere GPU alongside a fast 144 Hz IPS display. The Razer Blade 15 with the same GPU and slower Intel CPU costs over $500 more than this HP in comparison.
The main drawback to this deal is the limited 8 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM. Fortunately, users can remove the bottom panel and upgrade both RAM and storage whenever they wish after purchasing. Keep in mind that the AMD system lacks Thunderbolt support unlike on the Omen 15 SKUs with Intel CPUs.

NVIDIA Reflex reduces latency in Overwatch by up to 50%

Another big competitive online shooter is adding support for NVIDIA Reflex. Last month, we saw Nvidia’s latency-reducing tech implemented in Rainbow Six Siege and this month, it will be coming to Blizzard’s Overwatch. In the case of Overwatch, Nvidia Reflex seems to deliver its best in-game results to date.
Running Overwatch with Nvidia Reflex on can bring a massive 50 percent reduction to latency. In tests, a GTX 1660 Super running the game at 1440p/144Hz, total system latency reaches up to 63ms, switching Reflex on reduces that to 31ms. In the case of the RTX 2060 Super, latency drops from 47ms to 24ms and for the RTX 3080, switching Nvidia Reflex on reduces latency from 26ms to 16ms.

Nvidia launches Reflex latency-reduction tech for Overwatch

It can halve system latency, claims Nvidia
on March 14, 2021, 9:11
In brief: Overwatch has become the fourteenth game to support Nvidia Reflex, a latency reduction tool capable of halving system latency in optimal scenarios. It’s available now in the Overwatch Public Test Region (PTR) and will be added to the primary client soon.
Nvidia Reflex is another addition to the GeForce feature set, similar to ray tracing and DLSS. Like both of these features, Reflex requires support to be built into the game’s engine, and it’s a bit situational: in our preliminary testing last October, we found that it had the largest impact when the game was GPU bound, and that its effectiveness varied between games.

75 W vs. 130 W TGP GeForce RTX 3060 laptop: The performance gap isn't as wide as many were expecting

The performance gap is definitely there, but it's nothing that we haven't seen before from previous generation Max-Q and non Max-Q designs. Gamers will see about 15 to 20 percent slower performance if jumping from a 130 W GeForce RTX 3060 GPU to the 75 W version.

The GeForce RTX 3060 GPU for laptops can range from 60 W all the way up to 115+ W and it can be difficult to know what each laptop is targeting. We've tested a small handful of units thus far with various TGP targets as shown in the table below. There are many more options available, of course, but these few should give a good idea of what users can expect from systems that we've yet to personally test as well.

Nvidia's Ampere based RTX 30 series cards may be getting choked by less powerful CPUs

Nvidia's Ampere based RTX 30 series cards may be getting choked by less powerful CPUs
AMD Radeon, in the past, has been infamous for CPU driver overhead problems when running last-gen DirectX 11 and OpenGL APIs. However, thanks to new more low-level APIs and improved micro-architecture design, the tables may have turned completely, if a test from a popular YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed is any indication.
According to the test, Nvidia's Ampere GPUs - which constitute the RTX 30 series of graphics cards - maybe be far more easily bottlenecked by less powerful CPUs in comparison to AMD's Radeon cards. Four processors and five graphics cards across multiple generations were used to conduct the test on several modern AAA titles to expose the driver overhead problem on Nvidia's Ampere cards.

4GB GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Coming towards Notebooks

And they will include support for DLSS and Raytracing. ASUS had a bit of a booboo on their website, as they displayed specifications of one of its new gamer notebooks for 2021; ASUS TUF Dash F15 will have a GPU based on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti.
Not all shocking, but what is interesting to learn is that DXR and DLSS get supported, meaning there is dedicated hardware onboard in the form of RT and tensor cores. For a low spec and positioned product, that is an interesting observation. Before making an appearance as RTX 3050 Ti, the GPU was codenamed GeForce RTX GN20-P0. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti will be the first to use the GA107 GPU, which will come with 4GB of GDDR6 memory tied towards a 128-bit memory interface.

Re: GeForce RTX 3080 Ti to continue Nvidia's mining limiter strategy
I think Nvidia already announced it would apply to future cards, so not much of a revelation there. However, new Ti cards all based on GA102 and with only 12GB VRAM is interesting, if very disappointing.

Part of me suspects this will become a hardware feature in the next generation or two.
