SANDWICH At around 2 a.m.Saturday, Murphy the dog would not stop barking.
Owners Jean and Jim Gilrein woke up to see what all the fuss was about. After looking around to see if anyone was out front, Jean Gilrein eventually looked out her bedroom window and saw smoke and a small fire showing in her neighbor s backyard.
After calling 911, she said the fire grew “fast” and, following a few explosions they thought were propane tanks, the whole house was on fire.
“This is a sad story,” Jean Gilrein said Saturday morning.
The house, which fire officials and neighbors said contained a lot of debris and other materials, was destroyed in the fire.
