Waterford-native Megan Phelan to host show on Beat


Waterford-native Megan Phelan is to host the ‘Top 7@7 On Sunday’ on Beat 102-103.
The 22-year-old, who recently completed her degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Salford in Greater Manchester, takes up the role after hosting a weekly show on ShockRadio in Manchester as well as further afield in the Netherlands where she co-presented a current affairs programme on OOG Radio & Television.
Away from hosting the ‘Top 7@7 on Sunday’, Megan shares her time at the station with Beat’s experienced news team where she is currently putting the finishing touches to a docu-series on Ireland’s mother & baby homes, titled ‘Hear My Voice’. ....

Beat 102 103 creates documentary on Long Covid


Beat 102 103 has created a special two-part documentary on Long Covid featuring presenter Michelle Heffernan.
On 2 January 2021, Michelle was diagnosed with Covid-19 and like many others, she believed it would be over within a few weeks; instead, she endured months of debilitating fatigue.
In response to the ignorance and unfamiliarity with this condition, Michelle and Beat now present “It’s Not a Cold-It’s Long Covid” examining Long Covid, its effects, and the distressingly poor response patients have endured.
“I had a tough time recovering,” says Michelle, “but that is nothing compared with the stories I have heard, the lives I have seen obliterated. ....

Broadcasters celebrate 10th World Radio Day


Broadcasters and radio supporters have been marking World Radio Day with messages on-air and on social media.
Organiser of the initiative, UNESCO, is calling on radio stations to celebrate the event’s 10th anniversary and the more than 110 years of radio.
Colm Markey MEP tweeted: “On #WorldRadioDay it’s important to acknowledge the vital role local radio has played during the #COVID19ireland pandemic, keeping communities across Ireland up to date on the latest developments. Keep up the good work!”
