Two meerkats rescued from Dundee street

Two meerkats have been rescued after being spotted in a Dundee street.
The Scottish SPCA managed to catch one of the animals last Friday and the second on Saturday.
The charity believes the meerkats, which were both picked up from South Road, had been kept as exotic pets before escaping or being abandoned.
Meerkats are native to deserts and grasslands of southern Africa. Both rescued animals are now in the care of Dundee s Camperdown Wildlife Park.

Ben Soutar, of the SSPCA, said: It was certainly a very unusual rescue. I ve never been called to rescue a meerkat before. ....

A popular Dundee golf course will be flooded with players as a result of lockdown closure, a club has warned.
Staff at Caird Park Golf Club were shocked when Leisure and Culture Dundee publicly announced yesterday that the course, along with all other venues operated by the city organisation, would shut down from Christmas Eve.
The closure will be in place for at least three weeks in line with Level 4 Covid-19 restrictions across the country.
However, Mike Tidcombe treasurer at Caird Park Golf Club said: “This is very disappointing news and the first of me hearing about it. ....

Wildcats born in the Highlands have added to a record breeding year for the endangered species.
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which runs the Highland Wildlife Park and Edinburgh Zoo, reported 57 wildcat kittens have been born within the UK conservation breeding programme this year.
In total, 22 litters of kittens were welcomed across 10 of the zoos, wildlife parks and private collections working with the wildlife conservation charity, compared to 24 kittens at 11 collections in 2019. ....
