Pride crosswalk damaged in Kemptville one day after unveiling

OTTAWA
A 36-year-old woman is facing a charge of mischief after police say the newly painted Pride crosswalk was damaged in Kemptville.
On Monday, the municipality of North Grenville and Kemptville Pride unveiled the first-ever rainbow crosswalk at the intersection of Prescott Street and Reuben Crescent in Old Town Kemptville.
Ontario Provincial Police say the newly painted Pride crosswalk was damaged around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A witness reported observing a female driver operating a pickup truck, intentionally spinning its tires as it drove over the crosswalk, said the OPP.
Police attended the area and observed the tire marks across the crosswalk. Further investigation identified the driver and vehicle. ....

Kemptville Pride Pausing Celebrations Following Tragic Findings At B.C. Residential School

Kemptville Pride is putting a pause on Pride Month to acknowledge the tragic finding of the bodies of 215 children at a residential school in British Columbia.
The organization will be taking the first 215 hours of the month to stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and honour the souls that were stolen from their families.
In a statement, Executive Director Jennifer Crawford says the harm that occurred in these schools affects Indigenous families and communities today through direct and intergenerational trauma. ....

Kemptville Pride is looking for some young talent to add to its team over the summer.
The non-profit recently received two grants which will allow them to hire students for the Administrative Assistant, and Event Planner positions.
Executive Director Jennifer Crawford says it’s an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in helping the organization grow.
“We have a bunch of other ideas we want to brainstorm and having an Event Planner and an Administrative Assistant help us out,” Crawford said. “It’s really going to make a huge difference for us and you’re going to hear a lot more from us in the community now that we have a little more capacity.” ....

OTTAWA, ON, Feb. 11, 2021 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to better supporting LGBTQ2 individuals in Canada and building a society where everyone has equal rights and opportunities to be their true, authentic selves. Along with LGBTQ2 communities across Canada, we are working to strengthen LGBTQ2 organizations and support the critical work they do to create an equitable and consciously more inclusive Canada. That s why Budget 2019 allocated funding for the first ever Government of Canada fund for LGBTQ2 organizations.

Kemptville Pride is searching for its new leader.
The organization is looking to hire a new Executive Director to help plan, fund, and organize Pride activities in Kemptville and support LGBTQ2+ people and their families in the area.
Logistics Coordinator for Kemptville Pride Julia O’Grady says they want a committed community leader who wants to see the growth of pride in the community.
“Essentially, what the position is is taking our grassroots organization and making it into something sustainable and exceptional that is not only relying on volunteers,” O’Grady said. “Our volunteers are amazing and they do great things but to get an organization where we envision this organization to be, we really need someone who can lead the charge.” ....
