Music and art head south for Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship 1 March 2021

Multi-award winning Australian musician and composer David Bridie and renowned visual artist and photographer Keith Deverell have been awarded the 2021 Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship.
Together, Bridie and Deverell will record and film the continent’s natural soundscapes and stories to create an immersive audio-visual art installation and accompanying music album that captures and embodies Antarctica.
The installation will involve multi-screen floor and wall projections of abstracted footage and photographs, presented in an enclosed space, approximately ten metres by ten metres, with accompanying surround soundscape. The soundscape will be comprised of recorded natural sounds from Antarctica melded with composed music, spoken word pieces and songs, both new and archival. ....

The Coalition Government is backing the expansion of a fertiliser company in north Queensland to help grow its exports and create jobs for current and future generations.
Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia Keith Pitt said the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) has now approved a $71 million loan to Agripower Australia Ltd, to upgrade infrastructure and improve access to its mine site near Greenvale, and its processing plant near Charters Towers. ....

CANEGROWERS has welcomed the announcement of a Federal Government grant for a crucial piece of infrastructure to help Maryborough and Sunshine Coast growers get their sugarcane to Childers for crushing this year.
The Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and local Federal MP Keith Pitt have announced a $2.5 million Community Development Grant towards the construction of a transloader to move sugarcane from road to rail transport so it can be processed at the Isis Central Sugar Mill.
CANEGROWERS had called for government assistance after MSF Sugar announced the closure of the Maryborough Mill at the end of the 2020 season. ....

Partnering with community organizations, Cornell researchers are developing and planning a hyperlocal weather forecasting system designed to improve winter-storm emergency response and enhance natural disaster coordination for New York state’s rural communities.
Max Zhang, professor in Cornell’s Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, will lead the federally funded effort this spring.
The work is part of the new Civic Innovation Challenge, announced Feb. 17, an $11 million effort led by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The four-month challenge seeks to empower communities to achieve necessary local weather and disaster solutions, so that one day such plans may be scaled up regionally or nationally. ....
