🛶 Jayhawks Put Together Strong Showing on Senior Day


KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team celebrated senior day in true winning fashion after defeating Kansas State in the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday morning on the waters of Wyandotte County Lake. Only two of the four races in the Drake Dual were launched and due to wind conditions later on in the morning the remaining races versus Drake were canceled.
Kansas’ Third Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight also competed in an unofficial, exhibition capacity on the day.
I am grateful to those that made today possible, racing at home is pretty great. We had so many young Jayhawks get their chance to gain racing experience. They understood what all of the hard work has allowed them to do. ....

🛶 Kansas Heads to Iowa For Next Regatta


SOLON, Iowa – The Kansas rowing team gets back on the water Saturday, April 24 against host Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Drake. All three Big 10 schools are currently ranked in the top-20.
I’d by lying if I didn’t say that we’ve had this date circled on our calendar since it was scheduled. Racing three top-20 programs is a huge opportunity for us to test our speed. The next time we expect to see three top-20 ranked teams is at the Big 12 Championship, so this is excellent prep for that event. Similarly both events are final only, giving us one time to get it right, to go out and see if we can produce high level speed amongst a tough field. ....

🛶 Rowing Introduces ‘Morning Phog’


LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team celebrated the naming and christening of its newest boat, the ‘Morning Phog’ on Monday, April 19. Participating in the celebration was not only the current rowing team but Reese Burt [Arnold] who is a former rowing student-athlete.
The christening of the new boat really completes our celebration of 25 years of the Kansas rowing program. The boat is meant to recognize the milestone for our young program, hence the choice of color, crimson, that will really standout amongst our fleet of blue boats! In 2019 Reese broke the record to become the fastest Kansas rower in history, I had thought at the time she might get to help in the naming of a future boat. ....

IRVING, Texas – Kansas rowing has garnered back-to-back weekly honors by the Big 12, with the First Varsity Eight being named the Co-Boat of the Week.
What stood out more than the end result was the growth of this crew from their close loss to OU last week to handling the tough water conditions we had in Sarasota.

This past weekend at the Sunshine State Invite in Sarasota, Florida the crew of Heidi Burns (coxswain), Abigail Benedict, Kai Alexander, Maggie Habben, Savannah Skack, Laurel Salisbury, Julia Isbell, Paige Wheeler and Lauren Fee (bow) finished third with a time of 7:46.45. The Jayhawks contested second-place Clemson at 7:36.88 and winning UCF with a mark of 7:31.67 while handling the tough water conditions through the seven-lane race. ....
