Longest running Labor day parade will return in Galesburg The Galesburg Labor Day parade returns at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, in downtown Galesburg. The Galesburg Trades and Labor Assembly is now looking for participants for its 129th annual labor day parade, after a quieter parade last year. Last year’s parade came in the midst of the pandemic, and existed as a way to keep the long-running parade going for another year, despite a much smaller showing. The assembly received a parade permit and then took just two vehicles with two groups from the start to the finish of the parade. They did not announce the parade ahead of time, and they filmed the parade for their Facebook page. ....
Labor hall trashed in Galesburg; symbol painted on floor resembles Confederate flag Talbot Fisher GALESBURG The Galesburg Trades and Labor Assembly Hall, headquarters of the local AFL-CIO union, located at 1648 N. Henderson St., was reportedly broken into and vandalized last week, according to a Galesburg police report. Galesburg police were called to the location Friday morning, where they observed the front door was defaced and damaged. In addition, the walls, carpeting, and furniture had been spray painted and covered in condiments. Trash and food were strewn about. Political signs had been spray painted over. The carpet was also soaked in water from a sink being plugged and the faucet left running. The office had been entered and rummaged through, but nothing appeared to be missing. ....
