Residents and businesses have until Thursday, March 25, to participate in the Haverhill Exchange Club’s Hometown Heroes banner program.
The program calls for hanging 24- by 48-inch banners in downtown Haverhill, honoring veterans, active duty, reserve and National Guard members. Banners will be displayed from Memorial Day through Veterans Day and may features family of business name acknowledgements. Following the event, banners may be kept as a keepsake. ....

Motorcyclist, 37, Airlifted to Boston with Serious Injuries; Haverhill Police Make Drunken Driving Arrest

A 37-year-old man was airlifted to a Boston hospital for treatment of serious injuries and a 60-year-old Salisbury woman has been charged with drunken driving in connection with the incident just before 5, this afternoon.
According to Haverhill Police, an unidentified motorcyclist and a pickup truck driven by Martha Iannazzo, collided on the onramp from River Street, Routes 110/113, northbound onramp to I-495. Haverhill Police and Fire and Trinity EMS provided emergency aid. The motorcyclist was taken to nearby Westgate Center for to be MedFlighted to Boston, according to a statement from Interim Capt. Meaghan J. Paré. ....

City Halts Slavit Riverboat Plan After Harbor Commission Raises Concern and Member Resigns

Plans to bring a 400-passenger ship up river are in question today as city officials say moorings brought to the Merrimack Sunday were not authorized and must be removed.
Haverhill Police delivered a letter from Harbormaster Michael Vets to Tim Slavit just before 10, Wednesday night, ordering removal of two mooring blocks at Chase’s Wharf by end of day Friday. The order follows a heated exchange at a Haverhill Harbor Commission meeting Tuesday night when allegations were raised that shortcuts were taken in preparing for the arrival of the Slavit family’s MS Captain Red. ....

Haverhill Cultural Council Awards More Than $40K for Concerts, Block Party, Theater, More

During the season ahead, Haverhill residents and visitors will be able to take part in a cultural fair and a Boardwalk Block Party, learn about printing, hear concerts, enjoy theatrical productions and more thanks to more than $40,000 in grants recently awarded by the Haverhill Cultural Council.
The state money was awarded to local nonprofits, individuals and local business leaders delivering activities and programs for students, seniors and children. Specific offerings include Haverhill YMCA Learning Pods, Self-Care for Haverhill Senior Citizens, “Chainsaws, Cheeseburgers and Rock and Roll” and “Musical Baseball Show.” ....
