Amelia Dyer: the Bristol woman suspected of murdering up to 400 babies
Some historians think her responsible for hundreds of deaths
Updated
She has to be one of the most chilling characters in Bristol s long history.
Salvation Army member Amelia Dyer looked like a maternal figure caring for a house full of children.
In reality she was a child killer some historians hold accountable for around 400 infant deaths.
It is a feat that earned her the nickname “Angel maker”.
Bristol-born Dyer was the daughter of a master shoemaker who was raised in the hamlet of Pyle Marsh - now part of St George - and benefited from a good education.
