Mobile firms urge govt to create policies to compete with countries

Mobile manufacturers on Friday requested the government to come up with policies that focus on competition with countries and not companies, sectoral industry body ICEA said in a statement.
Addressing a webinar on production linked incentive scheme on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the scheme, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and exports, is expected to increase the country s production by USD 520 billion in the next five years.
The scheme was first notified to boost mobile manufacturing in the country, and later on, it was extended to other sectors after seeing traction of many global players in the segment, including Samsung, Apple s contract manufacturers, Dixon, and Lava. ....

Chinese Investment Hurting Key Local Industries and Local Businessmen
Chinese companies are taking over major businesses in Pakistan’s export-led manufacturing sector, stated a report published by Hong Kong-based online news platform Asia Times.
The report said that while on one hand, rising Chinese investment is helping boost Pakistan’s ailing economy, on the other hand, the local businesses and groups are expressing concerns that the Chinese investors are cornering key local industries, state assets, and businesses to the detriment of Pakistani players and interests.
According to a report issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s World Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan increased from $1.7 billion in 2018 to $2.2 billion in 2019. The accumulated FDI for the year for Pakistan amounted to $34.8 billion with China being the biggest contributor. ....

Despite two false starts and unwelcoming outdoor weather, the Brunswick-based startup bluShift Aerospace launched its first rocket prototype, called Stardust 1.0, on 31st January.
It lifted off Sunday afternoon from a snow-covered runway at the Loring Commerce Center in Limestone, Maine. “It landed right where we were hoping for and where we were planning for. It couldn’t have been better than that”, bluShift CEO Sascha Deri told reporters after the launch.
Discussing biofuel and its integration with the Stardust 1.0 rocket, Deri said,
We want to prove that a bio-derived fuel can serve just as well, if not better in some cases, than traditional fuels to power rockets and payloads to space. ....
