FUKUOKA Sake yeast that was taken into space has now returned from a journey to the depths of the sea, and plans are underway to use it to create a brew in the western Japan prefecture of Kochi as early as September.
According to the Kochi Prefectural Industrial Technology Center, which was behind the project, it is the first time that sake yeast has been taken both into space and deep into the sea. The center hopes the unique yeast will help revitalize the prefecture s sake brewing industry. ....

TOKYO Once upon a time, having a car was a status symbol. But in Japan, young people in particular are leaving car ownership behind, forcing the country s automakers to seek and strengthen strategies beyond the simple dealership sale. Now, a host of alternative ways to get behind the wheel are popping up, especially in cities, from fixed fee vehicle subscriptions to car sharing.

FUKUOKA A special Nagareboshi Shinkansen, or shooting star bullet train, ran in the southwestern Japan region of Kyushu with a spectacular display of light on the night of March 14 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Kyushu Shinkansen Line s full-scale opening.
The bullet train, casting beams of light from windows in seven colors with special lighting equipment, ran from Kagoshima-Chuo Station in the city of Kagoshima to Hakata Station in the city of Fukuoka. An event to view the shinkansen was held in a multipurpose square near Chikugo-Funagoya Station in the Fukuoka Prefecture town of Chikugo, and some 2,100 people enjoyed the view. ....

FUKUOKA Popular ramen chain Ichiran, based in this southwestern Japan city, has announced that it would launch its first instant noodles on Feb. 15.
Amid the decline in the number of customers at its restaurants due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the company is aiming to cover the revenue drop by selling instant cup ramen, which people can enjoy at home.
Ichiran has conducted research on instant noodles with a food company and others for more than 20 years, and decided to release the product as the flavor of the noodles and soup have reached its high standards. The ramen company has been fussy about the tenderness and smoothness of non-fried noodles, and has recreated a rich and creamy soup like that served at its restaurants by mixing p ....
