If you want to go to theme parks in the U.S. during the winter, you once had to head to Florida or California. But now, some seasonal parks are expanding their seasons into January and February as well. Six Flags Over Texas, near Dallas, Texas, and Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, are two of the parks that are now open. The trend is partly fueled by the pandemic, as theme parks are largely an outdoor experience, and therefore considered safer. In addition, many Americans aren’t working traditional schedules right now and have more flexibility to visit parks. Adding winter events helps a theme park add value to its annual membership programs, especially after the pandemic forced the parks to close and reduce capacity. Six Flags Over Texas, for example, is presenting its first-ever Fire & Ice Winter Festival on weekends through February 28th, as well as February 15th (Presidents Day.)
