3-day Annual Zonal workshop on KVKs takes off; VC SKUAST-Jammu & Kashmir bats for extension and marketing beyond Production

JAMMU : A three day online Annual Zonal Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK)s for 2020-21 under ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I started today.
The workshop has been organized with the objective to review the work carried out by KVKs of Zone-1 during the previous year and approval of an action plan for the year 2021-22.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. T. Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR), New Delhi who was Chief Guest, on the occasion. Dr. B.S. Dhillon, Former Vice Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana was Guest of Honour. Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir in his opening remarks stressed upon patenting of technologies developed by SKUAST-Jammu. He said that KVKs and Research stations are contributing to the development of the agricultural system and it is appreciated at all levels. ....

NCDC ropes in KVKs for formation & promotion of FPOs

The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a cooperatives focused organisation under the Union Agriculture Ministry has roped in ICAR’s Institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in 116 blocks for formation and promotion of Farmers Producers Organisations (FPOs) in the country under a central scheme, says a press release issued by NCDC.
Of the total 717 KVKs which have spread across India, 468 are under the administrative control of state agricultural universities, 65 under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and 22 under central agricultural universities in the country.
As per the NCDC, ICAR Institutes and KVK’s in 116 blocks will work as Cluster Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) under the Central Scheme which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year with an aim to bring small and marginal farmers into production value chains and help them boost their income. ....

Ramban admin shortlists maize, Anardana, honey, pea for FPOs

Ramban : Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam, today chaired the District Monitoring Committee meeting on formation and promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Cluster Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) for providing direct benefit of produce to the farming community.
The meeting was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Farooq Ahmed, DDM NABARD, Arushi Sharma; LDM and other senior officers of allied departments.
During the meeting, a threadbare discussion was held on the potential crops to scale up their production and marketing in an innovative way by formulating FPOs and CBBOs to provide maximum benefits to farmers from their crops.
The Committee selected one major and minor crop for all identified blocks including maize as major and walnut as minor crop for Ramsoo, Sundries Anardana and Dry-Rind for Batote and Sangaldan, besides pea for Ramban block. ....

In remote villages of the Himalayan Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, more than four thousand small and marginal farmers have taken up beekeeping on a commercial scale through the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), Devbhumi Natural Products Producer Company Limited (DNPPCL). This FPO has lent loans to its farmer members for taking up beekeeping and honey production as a source of livelihood. Nabard Chairman comes calling; NCDC to help set up 8000 FPOs

Nabard Chairman Dr GR Chintala visited NCDC headquarters last week and met its Managing Director Sundeep Nayak. The aim of the meeting was to boost the formation of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) across states. Briefing about the content of the meeting, NCDC Managing Director said to Indian Cooperative that NCDC and Nabard are going to help form thousands of FPOs across India. We aim to set up 8000 FPOs, Nayak added.
There will be a Credit Guarantee Fund of up to Rs 1,000 crore in NABARD with equal contribution by DAC&FW and NABARD and Credit Guarantee Fund of Rs.500 crore in NCDC with equal contribution by DAC&FW and NCDC for providing suitable credit guarantee cover to accelerate flow of institutional credit to FPOs by minimising the risk of financial institutions for granting loan to FPOs. ....
