A Portland man appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Friday accused of robbing the Columbia Credit Union in central Vancouver in May.
Judge Gregory Gonzales set bail for Jonathan Edward Monscone, 24, at $75,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned July 23.
The Vancouver Police Department responded around 1:20 p.m. May 31 to the bank, 3003 N.E. 62nd Ave., for reports of a robbery. A teller told police a man gave her a note that read “start with the hundreds no dye packs hurry.” After the teller gave him money, the man ran from the bank, according to a probable cause affidavit. ....

Vancouver woman sentenced to 10 months for stealing from family

A Vancouver woman was sentenced Monday to 10 months for cashing checks in her mother’s name, with whom she was living as her caretaker in 2017 and 2018.
Dana Lynn Cole, 54, pleaded guilty to identity theft and forgery in Clark County Superior Court.
She originally faced six counts of forgery, one count of theft from a vulnerable adult and one count of identity theft. She was also later accused of bail jumping after failing to appear for a hearing, court records show.
Cole moved in with her mother, Anna Cook, then 79, and stepfather, Roy Cook, then 84, in April 2017 at their Vancouver residence, according to an affidavit of probable cause. She made a nonfinancial agreement to be the primary caregiver for her mother, the affidavit said. ....

Voters in Clark County’s largest district will cast ballots for either a long-tenured incumbent or a pair of political newcomers in one school board race this primary election.
Raelynne Altree, a 34-year-old with four children who describes herself as a “home educator,” is running to unseat two-time incumbent Julie Bocanegra, 49, for Position 1 on Evergreen Public Schools board.
The Columbian sent questionnaires to all school board candidates. The other challenger for Position 1 is Mike Appel, who did not respond to The Columbian’s inquiry. ....

A homeless man is accused of intentionally setting fire to cardboard inside the elevator cars at the Murdock Building on Broadway in downtown Vancouver.
Matthew Glen Hervi, 36, appeared Tuesday via Zoom in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of second-degree arson in connection with the Feb. 20 fire.
Judge Gregory Gonzales set Hervi’s total bail at $23,000, which included another case; Hervi is set to be arraigned March 12, court records show.
Several callers reported seeing light smoke coming from the front of the seven-story building, 703 Broadway, which houses Columbia Credit Union and offices, and serves as a parking garage. The calls prompted a large response, with multiple fire crews dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. fo ....
