Movie lovers, employees revel in Capitol Theatre's reopening in Eagle: 'Feels like we never left'

The Capitol Theatre in Eagle is ramping up to pre-COVID-19 attendance levels, building renewed faith among theater ownership and loyal patrons that the cinema industry is here to stay.
As the months of the COVID-19 pandemic stretched on and other local businesses scrambled to tweak business models to retain revenue, Eagle’s Capitol Theatre remained shuttered from March 2020 until just two weeks ago.
In the meantime, sweatpants became the collective uniform and streaming services tightened their grip on the public’s consumption of movies, leading some to speculate that the pandemic could mean the end of movie theaters altogether. ....

Eagle County arts organizations receive $242,000 in state relief


Vail Valley Foundation: $125,000
Cascade Village Theatre, Inc. d/b/a Capitol Theatre: $90,000
Valley Events Inc.: $15,000
The Art Base: $12,000
On Dec. 7, Gov. Jared Polis signed a state relief bill setting aside $7.5 million to help the arts and entertainment industries across the state. Funds are part of that state relief bill and were given based on revenue loss reported from 2019-2020, according to the grant website. Individuals also received $2,500, according to the website, but the full list of names was not released.

Colorado Arts Relief Grant Funds 722 Artists, Businesses and Nonprofits


As artists and cultural organizations around the state struggle to keep their enterprises alive during the COVID-19 pandemic, foundations and government alike are finding new ways to help the creative sector survive.
Colorado Creative Industries just announced 722 grants awarded by the Colorado Arts Relief Grant, which will give individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations a total of $7.4 million in COVID-19 relief funds released by the Colorado Legislature during its emergency session late last year.
“Colorado’s arts, culture and entertainment industries play a critical role in our economy and are essential to our recovery and resiliency,” notes Colorado Creative Industries director Margaret Hunt in a statement announcing the grants. “The Colorado Arts Relief program offers direct funding to the individuals, businesses and organizations most severely impacted by COVID-19 capacity restrictions.” ....
