Worst Colorado Counties for COVID-19 Vaccination Rates May 2021

As in many parts of the country, the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations in Colorado has slowed considerably in recent weeks a particularly worrisome trend given current data showing that the state is a national hot spot second only to Michigan when measured by per capita hospitalizations.
Recent reports have suggested that vaccine hesitancy is particularly acute in politically conservative rural areas. But the situation in Colorado is more complicated than that. The latest numbers show that the low vaccination rates are generally in counties with right-wing voting records and small populations. But the differences in rural-versus-urban vaccinations are relatively modest, in part because of disappointing inoculation stats in larger GOP-loving spots, too. ....

Is Colorado Seeing More COVID Vaccine Hesitancy? The Number Of Appointments Available Say Yes

Vaccination rates are lagging for Latino and Black Coloradans, as well as for men.
These two are exactly the kinds of people the state is hoping to reach now. They’re both young he’s 22, she’s 18 and from groups Latinx and Black Coloradans whose vaccination rates lag behind their share of the population.
But at least so far on this day last week at this site, they don’t have a lot of company. Nurse Hayley DeForest said it’s been pretty quiet.
“Demand, I feel like has gone down a little bit,” De Forest said. “It s just trying to figure out who still needs vaccines, because obviously, we have not vaccinated the entire population.” ....

Park County's Only Primary Care Doctor Retired 8 Years Ago. They Still Can't Find A Replacement

Dan Boyce/CPR News
Family physician Katherine Fitting, 70, stands outside the South Park Health Care clinic on Feb. 24, 2021. She is the only general practice doctor in Park County, an area nearly the size of the state of Delaware.
Dr. Katherine Fitting was darting from room to room in the small South Park Health Care facility in Fairplay, giving out doses of the Moderna COVID-19 shot during a recent vaccination drive. This rural area, surrounded by mountain passes difficult to traverse, does not have the facilities to store the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at its requisite sub-zero temperatures.
One man Fitting treated didn’t want to give his name because he said his wife is suspicious of vaccines and didn’t want him getting the shot. Another woman in her late 60s was still immunocompromised after recently beating stage-three cancer. She said she was only getting the shot “because if I get (COVID) now, I’m dead.”   ....
