CMC Promotes Sustainability and Outdoor Leadership Education For All - by Brooke Gilmore

Posted by Brooke Gilmore | Feb 13, 2021
Colorado Mountain College (CMC) is expanding the range of its sustainability and outdoor leadership offerings thanks to two grants awarded over the past year from the VF Foundation totaling $100,000.
The VF Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the VF Corporation , a 120-year-old apparel company headquartered in Denver that includes brands like Smartwool, The North Face, Timberland and other outdoor brands. The foundation supports organizations that promote participation in the outdoors, education, environmental stability, and diversity.
Two VF Foundation grants awarded to the Colorado Mountain College Foundation will support increased participation among underrepresented students in the college’s outdoor leadership and sustainability programs, such as this mountain orientation course in the Hunter-Frying pan Wilderness. A visionary and leader

A visionary and leader
It’s rare that one person could have the influence  and make the community contributions that Charlie Forster had and made.
Over 35 years in the county, his efforts included:
• Establishing Salida Enterprise for Economic Development when he first moved here in 1985;
• Leading the 1986 effort to purchase the Salida SteamPlant, persuading 40 business leaders to commit to $1,000 over 10 years;
• Assisting with the development of the Coors Boat Ramp at the site of the D&RG bridge;
• Assisting with the relocation of the county fair to Poncha Springs and rebranding the fair as the “New Olde-Fashioned Chaffee County Fair;” ....

Colorado Mountain College Receives Grant for Rural Nursing Success Fund - by Brooke Gilmore

Posted by Brooke Gilmore | Jan 21, 2021
Colorado Mountain College (CMC) recently received a grant from Johnson & Johnson Foundation via the Johnson & Johnson Center for Health Worker Innovation. The funds will help nurses on Colorado’s Western Slope get the training they need to step into the workplace.
The Rural Nursing Success Fund at the College allows CMC to add virtual simulation modules for nursing students as well as instructors. Additionally, a nursing income share agreement fund was created to provide students with an innovative way to fund their education.
An income share agreement (ISA) is a contract between a financial institution or college and a student. In return for funds covering the student’s educational needs, students agree to share a small portion of their future earnings for a certain period of time after graduation. ....
