Account executive Rob Matthews, of high net worth insurance broker Lycetts’ office in Shrewsbury, fears owners may face significant shortfalls in the event of claims, due to them underestimating their jewellery valuations, with the pandemic pushing up the price of gold.
The sharp rise in the price of gold – which topped £1,527 an ounce for the first time during the pandemic – means that many homeowners may be unaware of the true value of their collections.

A GRANDFATHER’s vision to create a multi-use hub at a Wyre Forest village school is now a reality thanks to support from local companies and fellow PTA members.
Made from recycled and donated materials, the PTA Hub at Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary School includes an activity and shop area, PE storeroom and covered shelter.
It was the idea of Ron Clowes, whose eight-year-old grandson Finley Matthews is a pupil.
The hub has now opened with a Christmas shop for the children to buy small gifts for their families.
