New York Small Business Development Center at BU helps local businesses during COVID-19 pandemic

The New York Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Binghamton University is located at the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator.
In the past year, the center has assisted 1,754 small businesses to save more than 2,400 jobs.

For small businesses across the state, no-cost business expertise from the New York Small Business Development Center (SBDC) could be the reason they don’t have to close their doors during the pandemic.
The SBDC at Binghamton University is a grant-funded, SUNY-wide program that offers confidential assistance to small businesses across the Southern Tier at no charge. The SBDC at BU serves the 12-county region of the Southern Tier which includes Broome, Cortland, Chenango, Delaware, Ostego, Tioga, Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, Yates, Allegany and Tompkins counties. Endicott lIthium-ion battery plant to begin production in 2022


Imperium3 received a charge Wednesday, one it hopes will power the economy in the Village of Endicott and Greater Binghamton for years to come. 
Imperium3 New York Inc. (iM3NY) announced it has reached a critical funding threshold that will allow the lithium-ion battery manufacturer to build out its first Gigafactory, with production expected in early 2022.
iM3NY has secured $85 million in funding, including a $50 million senior secured term loan from Riverstone Credit Partners and $35 million of equity funding. Magnis Energy Technologies invested $23.6 million in equity earlier this year. iM3NY also has $230 million of manufacturing assets in place, and the company said it is now “fully funded” with a capacity to generate over 1 gigawatt-hour of high-grade lithium-ion battery cells per year. The build-out of its first Gigafactory in the Huron Campus in Endicott, part of the former IBM campus, has already begun. ....

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) Despite a challenging economy, Koffman Southern Tier Incubator Operations Director, Laura Holmes, says the Incubator has seen an increase in entrepreneurs.
The Incubator, which is affiliated with both Binghamton University and SUNY Broome, is a place for entrepreneurs to begin, develop, and grow their businesses/companies, says Holmes.
She adds that it s a great help for the Southern Tier economy as well, noting that if the companies are successful, then they hire more people.
While Incubators have seen a 40-50% decrease in entrepreneurs nationwide, she says that at the Koffman Southern Tier center they have added more people since March and have only lost one tenant. ....
