Pensacola weather: Tornadoes, hail, heavy rain possible Wednesday

Following a weeklong stretch of perfect beach weather, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties should brace for two days of rain Monday and Tuesday and potentially severe weather Wednesday. Cody Lindsey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama, told the News Journal on Monday that the western Florida Panhandle can expect to see between one-tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch of rain Monday and Tuesday as stormy weather starts to roll in from the west. Starting at about 9 or 10 a.m. Wednesday and lasting into the late evening hours, a strong system is slated to bring every kind of severe weather risk to the area, including potential tornadoes, hail and straight-line wind events, in addition to about an inch or more of rain.

Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties are expected to see potentially damaging storms possible tornadoes and now large hail Wednesday night into Thursday morning, sandwiched between frigid cold days for a wild weather week in the Panhandle.  The National Weather Service Mobile, Alabama Wednesday night issued an updated advisory that included the possibility of quarter-size hail in the forecast. It also stated that damaging wind and tornado potential will mainly be focused along and south of the I-10 corridor, which includes neighboring Okaloosa County.
