WSFS Financial Corp. announced the WSFS Foundation and the WSFS Community Foundation merger to form the WSFS Cares Foundation.
The WSFS Foundation, founded in 2003, was the philanthropic arm of WSFS Financial Corporation, while the WSFS Community Foundation, previously the Beneficial Bank Foundation, was founded in 2007 and joined WSFS as part of the acquisition of Beneficial Bank.

Delaware sees dramatic hike in homelessness amid pandemic

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) Delaware has seen a 35% increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness in the past year, though local experts say the total is likely far higher due to the challenges of counting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Almost 60% of that increase were children, according to a recent report from the Housing Alliance Delaware, a statewide nonprofit that performed the countand aims to alleviate issues facing the homeless population.
The count didn’t include unsheltered people living in cars and encampments due to COVID-19 precautions and logistical challenges this year – communities that would drive up the total number of people experiencing homeless across Delaware. ....

• Delaware is continuing to vaccinate essential workers through state partnerships at workplaces and state-run vaccination events. The state says employees should check with their employers for more information. Employers can contact the Division of Public Health at vaccineplanning@delaware.gov to discuss vaccination plans.
• Delaware does not have a mechanism to filter for a certain vaccine, such as the single-dose Johnson & Johnson. When asked how to track down a certain vaccine, state officials have said residents should take the first vaccination opportunity they are offered.
• Of the three vaccines granted emergency use authorization in the U.S. – Pfizer, Moderna and J&J – only the Pfizer vaccine can currently be used for 16- and 17-year-olds. The Moderna and J&J vaccines are approved for everyone 18 and older. ....

Vax Machine focuses on vaccinating underserved Delaware residents

The Vax Machine, which is a part of CarePortMD, operates as a mobile vaccination site in hopes of reaching Delaware’s vulnerable and underserved communities that face multiple barriers in getting vaccinated. Adorned with a smiling blue cartoon syringe alongside multiple little green germs seemingly floating away in terror, the two Vax Machine buses in operation are making the rounds across the state, with plans for two more buses.
