AN AUTHOR is promoting his books depicting Richmond s medieval history in time for the town s 950th anniversary.
Rod Flint, Richmond author and descendent of Earl Gospatrick, a leader of a disastrous rebellion in the town in 1071, has written a series of books called The Harrying of the North.
They explore the social upheaval of that period in a fast-flowing historical adventure.
Mr Flint said: “I’ve long been fascinated with early medieval history and wanted to write a story about that period and weave it around where I live and the roots of my family history. I used my principal characters, a young woman and a young man, to tell a tale of intrigue and heroism around the very difficult times that followed the Norman invasion of the North. ....

New charity status for popular 'books and boots' festival | Darlington and Stockton Times

A NEW charity has been formed to run the Richmond Walking and Book Festival, a fixture in the town for 15 years.
The charity, Richmond Walking and Book Festival, has successfully registered with the Charity Commission. Eight local people, including several involved in previous festivals, have stepped up to become trustees, with Barbara Gravenor elected as chair.
Plans are underway for a varied and creative festival with a wide range of interesting literary events and a programme of walks to suit various levels of fitness and experience. The 2021 event will run from September 18 to 26 with links to the 950th anniversary of the founding of Richmond Castle. ....
