Lenore Mulbery…November 6, 1923 – January 30, 2021 : The Prowers Journal


A memorial service for longtime Lamar resident, Lenore Mulbery will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with V. Rev. Jennifer Shadle officiating. Inurnment for Lenore has taken place at the Fort Lyon National Cemetery.
Per Lenore’s request cremation will take place.
Lenore was born November 6, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to Annie Laurie (Sanders) and Harold Doner and passed away on January 30, 2021 at the Lamar Estates Nursing Home in Lamar, Colorado at the age of 97.
Lenore was an only child and she was baptized into the Episcopal faith at Church of the Ascension, Denver. She graduated as one of 11 valedictorians in 1941 from East High School earning a four year full tuition scholarship to the University of Colorado, Boulder. Immediately following graduation in November, 1944, she moved to Lamar and commuted weekdays to Amache Japanese Relocation Center near Granada, where she taught Spanish and English at the high school u ....

Donald Laverne Rice…July 14, 1928 – April 24, 2021 : The Prowers Journal


Donald Laverne Rice, 92, of Holly, Colorado passed away at his home on April 24, 2021, with his family by his side.   He was born July 14, 1928, to James Luther Rice and Ollie Bell Hightower in Liberal, Kansas.
The family lived in Oklahoma before moving to a farm in the Lycan community, south of Holly, Colorado in January 1931.  He attended Pleasant Valley School through 8
th grade.  He became a farmer and later part-owner of Holly Trucking Company.
Donald entered the US Army October 1950 and served in the 40
th Infantry Division in California, Japan and Korea.  He separated from the US Army October 1952.  He was a life-time member of the local VFW 4281 in Holly, Colorado. ....

Isabell Simpson…February 22, 1939 – December 21, 2020 : The Prowers Journal


 
Funeral Services for Isabell Simpson will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, Colorado with Pastor Rod Coulter officiating. A private family interment will take place at Fort Lyon National Cemetery. Current COVID-19 public health orders will be followed.
Isabell Morrow Simpson was born February 22, 1939 in La Junta, Colorado to Bruce and Mary Jane (Land) Morrow. She passed away on December 21, 2020 at the Bent County Healthcare Center in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 81.
Isabell loved books, sewing, dancing, 4-H, community volunteering, and having a cup of tea with friends.
Isabell drove the bookmobile for many years bringing books to many of the rural areas of Southeast Colorado. The bookmobile holds a special place in the hearts of those that looked forward to the arrival of the library on wheels. Isabell’s grandkids enjoyed going on the bookmobile to look for books that Grandma would read with them. ....
