Comal County Senior Center moving to old YMCA building


After several months, Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation has finalized a new, more spacious home off of Landa Street that is expected to open in December.
The senior center foundation purchased the YMCA building off of 710 Landa Street to relocate from its 655 Landa Street location.
Comal County Senior Center Executive Director Ken Lowery said he is excited to transform the 20,000 plus square-foot building into a “state-of-the-art” activity center.
“Our new home will offer more space for meeting rooms and activities as well as provide educational and exercise classes,” Lowery said in a press release. “We want to make the best use of this space by broadening our scope. We hope to utilize this space and make it available for more of our community to enjoy.” ....

Jesse Clay (J.C.) Ward


Jesse Clay (J.C.) Ward of New Braunfels went to be with the Lord at the age of 94 on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 after a sudden illness.  He was born on Sept. 4, 1926 in McMullen, MO.  J.C. entered the service of the United States Navy during WWII  two months after his 18th birthday.  On his ship headed toward Japan and halfway out in the Pacific Ocean, Japan surrendered and the war ended.  After his discharge from the service, he met his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret Helen Lynn, who preceded him in death in 2006.  J.C. and Margaret had 5 daughters together.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.  He was a loving, compassionate, Christian man who put his faith and family above everything else.  The family moved to Odessa, TX. in the early years and later to San Angelo, TX.  A friend convinced Jesse to spend one night on an oil rig holding on to the pipes and that was enough of that.  He was very industrious and ....

Comal County health department transferring vaccine to area providers


Comal County’s public health department is doing its part to spread the COVID-19 vaccine around to areas that may be having difficulty getting it. 
On Friday, officials said the department has transferred more than 2,000 doses to different providers across the county.
“In an effort to help our neighbors, Public Health has transferred small quantities of vaccines to local pandemic vaccine providers,” said Comal County Public Health Director Cheryl Fraser. “We want to make sure that all vaccine gets into arms as soon as possible and that everyone who wants a vaccine has a chance to receive one.”
Officials said the department transferred vaccines to providers in Spring Branch, Bulverde, Canyon Lake and Schertz. ....
