Council Discusses Future Plans, Hears Planning & Zoning Requests
The Hillsboro City Council continued discussions from a recent planning workshop and considered planning and zoning recommendations in a regular meeting held Tuesday, May 4.
City Manager Megan Henderson recapped information covered during the recent workshop. She stressed the importance of planning improvements, communicating those plans effectively to the community and following through to accomplish the projects.
A major topic of discussion has been the condition of city streets, and Henderson said that a multi-year, multi-million dollar commitment to street improvements is necessary utilizing bond, stimulus and grant funding. Plans also include using those same sources of funding to increase the quality of water and sewer systems. ....

Community Appearance Focus For City Of Hillsboro
In recent years under the leadership of former City Manager Frank Johnson, the City of Hillsboro has been addressing a number of community appearance issues, and that is expected to continue under new City Manager Megan Henderson.
These improvements have come in the form of clearing grown up lots, demolishing substandard houses and, more recently, the removal and trimming of downtown trees and the purchase of a building on the west side of the courthouse square.

City Council Honors Former City Manager
The Hillsboro City Council met in a regular session Tuesday, March 2, and approved a resolution expressing appreciation to past City Manager Frank Johnson for his service to the city.
Johnson announced his retirement in September and wrapped up his six years with the city in February. The council recognized him for a distinguished 42-year career serving Texas municipalities.
The City of Hillsboro will be forever grateful for the leadership and faithful service he has contributed in order to improve the quality of life and to help make Hillsboro a better place to live and work, the resolution read. ....

City Council Approves Renewal Of Tourism Agreement With Chamber
The Hillsboro City Council met in a regular session Tuesday, January 19, and renewed a tourism agreement between the city and the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.
The city and chamber first entered into the agreement in 2009. It allows the chamber to manage collections paid to the city from Hotel Occupancy Taxes for the purpose of promoting tourism, meetings, conventions, the arts and historic preservation efforts. The overall goal is to increase tourism and hotel occupancy in the city.
The council’s action will extend the agreement through September 30 of this year. ....
