How can the Union survive when three of its parts seek change?

AS Ruth Wishart points out, the Northern Ireland Protocol is “still the subject of friction on all fronts”. Arlene Foster had already expressed her unhappiness with this, but this did not save her job which will shortly be taken over by Edwin Poots – who will be Ms Foster all over again, but more so. Meanwhile Scotland moves toward independence, to the extent that a 95-year-old widow is reportedly being pressed into service to front a “charm offensive” intended to frustrate this.
At the same time Westminster is laying plans to pull the UK together to something more resembling a unitary state, as Ms Wishart concludes. However, I think she misses two things. ....

Huge day of action for independence set to be held after fundraiser success

Grassroots pro-independence group Believe In Scotland will launch the day of action to coincide with lockdown ending.
Its crowdfunder, now in its final week, saw the first £50,000 of public donations matched by business donors.
That total of £100,000 is still set to rise, with two donors promising to match the next £5000 in donations when they come in.
The cash will be spent on a day of action supported by The National as media partner, and we’ll be printing a special edition with a pull-out containing all 24 articles published in Believe In Scotland’s recent Open Minds series on independence.
Believe In Scotland have sought the support of the National Yes Network in co-ordinating the ambitious event. ....

Scottish independence-backing firms to double £50k raised in Yes campaign

BUSINESS backers of Scottish independence have contributed £50,000 in matching donations to an indyref2 fundraiser run by Believe in Scotland.
Believe in Scotland is the largest and most active independence campaigning organisation and incorporates the business and economic wellbeing campaign group Business for Scotland.
The organisation was awarded Independence Campaign of the Year (2020) by The National newspaper and the Scottish Independence Foundation after launching in January 2020.
The pro-independence business donors from Business for Scotland have agreed to match the first £50,000 raised from the independence-supporting public – pound for pound. So if the initiative raises £25,000 it pulls down an additional £25,000 to raise £50,000 in total and if it generates £50,000 the sum raised will total £100,000 to support local Yes Groups as they get ready for indyref2. ....
